Lema Owens Obituary

Lema Lorene Owens
March 30, 1931- April 16, 2021

Lema Lorene Owens of Bryan passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 at the age of 90.
Funeral Services will be held at 2PM Wednesday, April 21 in the Chapel of Trevino-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Willowhole Cemetery in North Zulch,TX.
Visitation will be from 5PM to 8PM Tuesday, April 20 at Trevino-Smith Funeral Home.
Lema was born March 30, 1931 in Section, Alabama to Gettage B. and Jessie Pearl Williams. She loved Jesus and was a lifelong faithful servant of God. She gave her heart to Jesus and received the Holy Ghost as a young child. She was a member of Bryan Pentecostal Temple-New Life Tabernacle for more than 40 years.
Lema loved taking care of her family, especially cooking for and feeding them. There always seemed to be “enough”. Her home was always open to family and many others; her happiest times were spent in a home full of loved ones. She loved her babies, in her words “each and every one, no matter how little or how big they are”. She loved gardening and everything she touched seemed to grow. For many years her vegetable garden was an imperative part of feeding her family. She loved to be outdoors and feel the sun on her face when the weather was warm. Before Lema’s retirement at age 72, she spent 30 years taking care of other senior’s needs working in nursing homes, where she was held in high regard by associates and residents.
Lema is preceded in death by her parents, Gettage and Jessie; her loving husband of 26 years, William E. Owens; three sons, Billy Owens, Jimmy Owens and  Edward Owens; three grandsons, Marvin Ball III, Billy Wayne Ball and Cory Ball; one brother Clifford Williams; five sisters, Willowdeen Hamic, Imogene Shirlen, Neyoma Cothern, Jessie Sue Williams and Panzie Sanders;
Lema leaves to cherish her memories, three sons and their wives, Dewayne Owens and Cindy, Samuel Owens and Tiffany, Kris Owens and Jennifer; two daughters and their ex-husbands, Marie Hurley (Lou) and Linda Crenshaw (Paul) and daughter-in-love Ellen Owens; one brother, Joe Williams; two sisters, Fannie Young and Hailey Poole; her thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Mrs. Owens’ Hospice Brazos Valley care team (the medical personnel, aids, social workers, chaplain, administrative staff and volunteers). As well as her caregivers, Lindy Crenshaw, Mary Sanders, Kara Parvin, Kimberly Wallace and others who made the quality of her life much greater and without whom the family could not have managed care at home. A very special thank you also to the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who ministered faithfully in home to Mrs. Owens’ for the last several years.
In Lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or directly to Trevino-Smith Funeral Home for final expenses.
