Jeanine Sampson Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we inform you Jeanine Catherine Sampson, beloved
wife, mother, and lifelong humanitarian passed away peacefully in hospice care at The
Waterford, College Station on May 16th, 2023 at 8:10 pm. She was 85. She will be
remembered by all who knew her as a loving, compassionate woman who selflessly
served her community. Her devotion to her family was unequaled, and she was the
best wife, mother, and friend a person could ever hope for.
Born August 26, 1937, in Napavine, Washington, Jeanie first moved to San Francisco
where she worked as Manager of the Benefits Department at Pacific Telephone.
When the stereo broke in the apartment she shared with friends, a good Samaritan
neighbor offered to fix it. That good Samaritan turned out to be the love of her life,
Stephen. They married on February 17, 1962, and together began an adventure that
took them from San Francisco, CA, Guadalajara, Mexico, Lampasas, TX,
Bloomington/Normal, Illinois, to College Station, TX in 1987. During their travels,
they raised their two daughters, Kelly and Kristin. In Lampasas, TX, she began a new
career as Traffic Manager for radio broadcast stations and continued this work during
her time in Illinois. After retiring as Traffic Manager for WMLA in Bloomington, she
fulfilled a new role as homemaker, and stay-at-home mom to Kelly and Kristin. She
lived to care for her family and her community. As a devout Catholic, Jeanie was
drawn to service throughout her life. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Catholic Church
for more than 35 years, at Elder Aid for 10 years, at Doctor Fernando Banda’s clinic
in Zapopan, Mexico, and was a 20+-year volunteer at the Brazos Valley Food Bank.
She was named Volunteer of the Year in 2005 by the Brazos Valley Food Bank. Jeanie
enjoyed water aerobics, singing with the women’s barbershop group Sweet Adelines
and working with the Mary Marthas ministry at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by her loving parents Margaret and Wes Curtis and brother Bob
Curtis, Jeanie is survived by her cherished husband of 61 years, Stephen Sampson, and
her two devoted daughters, Kelly and Kristin Sampson. Her kindness, generosity, and
humor will be deeply missed. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a loving,
compassionate humanitarian dedicated to the service of her community, and for her
immeasurable devotion to her family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church (507 E 26th St, Bryan, TX
77803) on the 16th of June at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the
